Laura Andreoli, M.Sc.

PhD Student

Laura Andreoli is a senior PhD student at the Basal Ganglia Pathophysiology Unit, Department of Experimental Medical Science. Her PhD project aims at dissecting the role of specific neuronal types in the genesis of basal ganglia disorders (primarily, parkinsonism, dystonia, dyskinesia). To this end, Laura uses murine models of human disorders where specific types of neurons are genetically and pharmacologically manipulated.
Working first as Master and then as PhD student, during the past 5 years Laura has produced important data, showing the distinct roles of direct pathway and indirect pathway striatal neurons in modulating responses to Parkinson´s disease therapy (Alcacer et al., 2017 J Clin Invest.; Sebastianutto, Goyet et al 2020 J Clin Invest.).
