Elena Espa, Ph.D.

Research Engineer

Elena graduated in pharmacy at the University of Cagliari, Italy and conducted the doctoral research in pharmacology at the same University where she studied both the neurobiological mechanisms of drug of abuse and the neuropathology of Parkinson’s disease, with a focus on the mechanism of action and the side effects of dopamine replacement therapy. 
In 2016, she moved to Lund University and  worked as post-doc on a project aiming to understand the pathophysiology of cognitive decline using models of cortical and subcortical synucleinopathies. After 2 years she was employed as a research engineer, expanding her research projects on the pathophysiology of movement disorders, the neurodegenerative process and the role of neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease.
